To The Class of 2022

Welcome to St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School! We hope you are getting ready for a new opportunity and experience that will help you learn more about yourself, your relationship with God, and your relationship with others!   To achieve this, a comprehensive orientation program has been developed which will be outlined below.

BIG BROTHER/BIG SISTER PROGRAM

At this point, you should have been contacted by a Big Sibling. Sometimes because of vacations, conflicting schedules, computer errors, changes in addresses and the like, there is a delay in making contact.  If you have not been contacted or there has been a change in the contact information we have for you on file, please let us know as soon as you can at 631.587.8000 ext. 116 or e-mail or maherd@sjbdhs.org.  By letting us know, we can figure out the problem and make sure you are contacted.

FORERUNNER DAY ASSIGNMENTS

The day will begin at 10:00 A.M. and will last until 2:00 P.M.; the day will include a special keynote address, an opportunity to meet members of your Advisory and class, a chance to learn about life at SJB, and some other fun activities. BBQ Lunch is included!

Tuesday, August 28th last names: Alanis to Grosso

Wednesday, August 29th last names: Hachem to Prophete

Thursday, August 30th   last names: Quatrale to Zere

Please note that these days are NOT optional.  If a serious reason exists that prevents you from attending on the day you have been assigned, please call 631.587.8000, x. 116 or e-mail  or maherd@sjbdhs.org

You will need to provide your own transportation on this day.  Please use the South Lobby entrance (back of the school by the athletic fields). Dress is casual but neat (shorts, sneakers, flip flops etc.). You will be given a Forerunner Day t-shirt to wear throughout the day’s activities; however, we ask that you arrive in a t-shirt which identifies one of the following things about you:

  • your previous school
  • your hometown
  • your parish
  • an athletic team on which you play
  • a dance studio with which you perform
  • any other organization to which you belong

In addition, as part of our school’s mission to aid those in need we ask everyone to bring at least one, new unused school supply that will be donated to local parish outreaches in our area. You’ll be challenged greatly in the days, weeks and months ahead to care for the less fortunate in a powerful way. This is just the beginning.

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION

The first “Official Day” of school for the entire Freshmen Class is Wednesday, September 5th.  School begins at 7:50 with dismissal at Noon. Transportation should be provided by your district, but please confirm that.  On this day, you’ll have a chance to meet your Big Sibling in person, tour the school, enjoy breakfast and much more as you begin your high school career. FYI: You need to be in uniform (polo shirt and pants/skort) on this day.

Thursday, September 6th is also a half day of school for FRESHMEN ONLY. We will run through your schedule, and work to help you get a sense of a “day in the life” of an SJB student. You will need to be in uniform on this day as well.

On Friday, September 7th,we welcome our entire community back for their first full day. The day begins with our annual outdoor Opening of School Mass, followed by a full day of classes.

On Sunday, September 16th, we invite you and your family to attend a special Mass for freshmen in the auditorium which will be followed by breakfast in the auditorium.

If you have any questions about the Freshman Forerunner Days, the first day of school or ANYTHING, please call us at 631.587.8000, x.116 or e-mail us at the addresses above.   We are here to help you in any way we can.

We hope the remaining days of summer are good for you! We look forward to seeing you at the Freshman Forerunner Days!

Sincerely,

Mr. Daniel Maher
